St. Augustine Church - Fenerbahçe
On July 2, 1886, 15 young graduates (small seminary students) from Koum-Capou (a suburb of Istanbul) arrived in Phanaraki, now Fenerbahçe, and stayed in a rented house. At that time the peninsula was abandoned. The house we know today was built in 1889-1890. It was consecrated by the apostolic delegate Bishop Bonetti on May 1, 1890. In 1892 two side wings were added. The left wing is the chapel dedicated to St. Augustine. The house was an Assumptionist novitiate from 1890 to 1903, then a scholasticate from 1903 to 1906 and again a student house until 1914. From 1914 to 1919 the Ottomans used the building as a hospital.
After the death of Father Emmanuel d'ALZON, the founder of the Assumptionists, Father François PICARD, who served as abbot from November 21, 1880 to April 16, 1903, visited the Phanaraki community in 1891, 1895, 1900 and 1902.

After 1920 there was no school and the house was empty. At that time, many Catholic families from Constantinople liked to come here to spend the summer months, because the breeze from the north made it a pleasant vacation destination. They often visited the Chapel of St. Augustine. The chapel became an appendage of the parish of Chalcedon. Therefore, the priests of Kadikoy attended the chapel and continue to do so today.
The chapel was completely renovated in 2012-13 under the direction of Father Yves PLUNIAN, who served as parish priest in Kadikoy from 2001 to 2013. He passed away on February 3, 2021 in Lyon.
The Eucharist is celebrated here every Sunday morning at 10 am.
