Virgin Mary Rosario Church - Bakirkoy
In 1883, a Levantine family of Italian origin unexpectedly received a considerable inheritance. They decided to allocate a large part of this inheritance to the construction of a large new church in Makriköy (today Bakırköy). The name of this family - Olivo - remains a blessing among us to this day. In the completed church, he lies in a crypt under a marble slab and every year a service is held for these generous souls.
The cornerstone of the new building was laid on April 25, 1884, blessed by the Apostolic Delegate Bishop Rotelli. Shortly afterwards, a forced interruption delayed construction. On April 13, 1885, a "will" from the empire allowed work to resume. The works lasted three years.

Over the years, the building has undergone a succession of important restorations and repairs. To mention only the most recent: the dome (1969), the exterior walls (1978); and, to underline the hard work carried out in anticipation of being able to celebrate with grateful joy the centenary of this church, a demanding and complete renovation of the entire interior and roof (1987-1989).
"Soli Deo honor et gloria" - To God alone, all honor and glory! And a pious commemoration accompanied by great gratitude for all the Dominican friars whose unwavering fidelity over more than a century has allowed us to glorify the glories of Our Lady even today in this renewed shrine of the Lord.
