The construction of this place of worship began in 1885, after obtaining permission from the administrative services of the Ottoman Empire, and was financed by an Italian banker, Ignazio Corpi. The work was commissioned to an Italian architect named Giacomo Leoni, who also built the banker's palace in Tepeba\u015f\u0131 and his villa in B\u00fcy\u00fckada.<\/p><table><tbody><tr><td class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t<p>Archbishop Rotelli celebrated the first mass here on September 26, 1886.<\/p><p>Monsignor Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, the future Pope John XXIII, was Apostolic Delegate in Turkey from 1935 to 1944. Roncalli had a summer house in Buyukada and regularly came to celebrate mass at the nearby church.<\/p><p><strong>Features of the church<\/strong><\/p><p>Located in the center of the village, a few hundred meters from the pier, the church goes unnoticed by most tourists.<\/p><p>After passing through a heavy iron gate crowned with a cross and the hand of St. Francis of Assisi holding the hand of Jesus, the fa\u00e7ade of the church is seen at the end of the garden.<\/p><p>Two statues stand out: on the right, St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuit order, and on the left, St. Francis.  Above the stained glass windows of the door is the same symbol as on the portal. The neo-Gothic church of San Pacifico has a magnificent wooden ceiling and interesting paintings and sculptures.
